The Citizens Scholarship Foundation of Stafford Springs was founded in 1962 by a group of concerned citizens for the purpose of awarding scholarships to assist students from Stafford and Union seeking education beyond the secondary level. Bob Verlick was the first President of CSFS, and along with many other townspeople was a guiding force when the organization was first started. We are the first chapter of the national organization Dollars for Scholars, a program of Scholarship America, to be created in Connecticut. CSFS is a non-profit, tax-exempt corporation operated by non-salaried representatives of the community of Stafford. The foundation has grown over the years to encompass over 180 permanent trust funds and over $2,500,000 in funding. Since our inception, we have awarded $2.210 million to 1,702 students and look forward to many more years of helping students achieve their educational goals.
